About Pedaling 4 Peace

Pedaling 4 Peace is a project of Clowns Without Borders Belgium.  Our clown Jan Slagen will cross Europe with his bicycle, direction: the Ukrainian border!

This bike trip is our way of launching a crowdfunding for the purchase of juggling equipment and educational tools for a humanitarian mission on the border between Hungary and Ukraine in June 2022  in partnership with local and international humanitarian associations and local artists.

But this bike trip is also our way of saying NO to war and expressing our solidarity with the Ukrainian people. It is a provocation, a memory and a testimony that the violence continues, but also a reminder of the vulnerability of men and women in the face of the deadly power of military violence.

Upon her arrival, Jan will find other CSF artists and together they will work to bring laughter and joy to children and families who are victims of war.

Where will the money be used for?

Through this crowdfunding, we would like to finance

– new juggling equipment and tools to fabricate them together with children

– parts of the cost of the costs of a 20-day artistic and humanitarian mission in the border area between Hungary and Ukraine, as well as the educational material necessary for the smooth running of the mission.


In detail:

– juggling equipment (balls, clubs, diabolos, stilts, flower-sticks, costumes, etc.)
– artistic materials (markers, pencils, paper, paint, etc.)
– translation into Ukrainian and printing of the educational guide for trainers, Peace Through Laughter
– per diem artists of Clowns Without Borders

What is Clowns without Borders Belgium?

Clowns without Borders Belgium (CwB) is an association which, for 20 years, has been campaigning in the social field, with both artistic and humanitarian actions, with the aim of replacing, through laughter, fear with hope.
This is our mission and constitutes our “psychosocial first aid kit”; it is based on a child-friendly approach, while creating a safe and positive environment. This approach is the sine qua non of our work.

Thus, the arrival of clowns in communities affected by trauma can be beneficial, simply because when we laugh…we feel safe, when we play…we open up to life and the participants can breathe again. In two words, we would like children to be able to become children again! The action of Clowns without Borders respects principles that mark both its methods of intervention and serve the strong commitments of its advocacy:

  • The right to childhood for all and at all ages: because the rights of children are violated every day, it is urgent to reaffirm the right to childhood, the right to laugh, to play and the freedom to imagine .
  • The voluntary commitment of performing arts professionals: putting their art at the service of the most vulnerable because access to art and culture is a factor of emancipation and respect for human dignity.
  • Priority to less publicized situations: to attract, through the originality of our action, the attention of the media, the general public and other NGOs to forgotten crises.
  • Respect for the principles of humanitarian aid: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence.

A propos Pedaling 4 Peace (Pedaler pour la Paix)

PEDALING 4 PEACE (Pedaler pour la Paix) est un projet de  Clowns Sans Frontières Belgique en partenariat avec l’ONU, Médecins Sans frontières et plusieurs associations humanitaires hongroises et ukrainiennes.
Notre clown Jan Slagen traversera l’Europe avec sa bicyclette, direction : la frontière ukrainienne!

Ce voyage en vélo est notre manière de lancer un crowdfunding pour l’achat de matériel de jonglerie et d’outils pédagogiques pour une mission humanitaire à la frontière entre Hongrie et Ukraine en Mai – Juin 2022.
Mais ce voyage en vélo est aussi notre manière de dire NON à la guerre et exprimer notre solidarité au peuple ukrainien. C’est une provocation, un souvenir et un témoignage que la violence continue, mais aussi un rappel à la vulnérabilité des hommes et des femmes face à la puissance meurtrière de la violence militaire.

A son arrivée, Jan retrouvera d’autres artistes de CSF et ensemble ils travailleront pour emmener le rire et la joie aux enfants et aux familles victimes de la guerre.

A quoi va servir le financement ? 

A travers ce crowdfunding, nous voudrions financier les coûts vifs d’une mission artistique et humanitaire de 20 jours dans la zone frontalière entre Hongrie et Ukraine, ainsi que le matériel pédagogique nécessaire au bon déroulement de la mission.

– matériel artistique (feutres, crayons, papier, peinture, etc.)

A propos Clowns Sans Frontières

Clowns sans Frontières Belgique (CSF) est une association qui, depuis 20 ans, milite dans le domaine du social, avec desactions à la fois artistique et humanitaires, dans le but de remplacer, par le biais du rire, la peur avec l’espoir.
Celle-ci est notre mission et constitue notre «trousse de premiers soins psychosociaux»  ; elle est basée sur une approche adaptée aux enfants, tout en créant un environnement sûr et positif. Cette approche représente le sine qua non de notre travail. Ainsi, l’arrivée des clowns dans les communautés touchées par les traumatismes peut être bénéfique, simplement car quand on rit…on se sent en sécurité, quand on joue…on s’ouvre à la vie et les participants peuvent respirer à nouveau. En deux mots, nous voudrions que les enfants puissent redevenir des enfants ! L’action de Clowns Sans Frontières respecte des principes qui marquent à la fois ses modalités d’intervention et servent les engagements forts de son plaidoyer :
– Le droit à l’enfance pour tous et à tout âge : parce que les droits des enfants sont bafoués chaque jour, il est urgent de réaffirmer le droit à l’enfance, le droit de rire, de jouer et la liberté d’imaginer.
– L’engagement bénévole des professionnels du spectacle vivant : mettre son art au service des plus vulnérables parce que l’accès à l’art et à la culture est un facteur d’émancipation et de respect de la dignité humaine.
–  La priorité aux situations les moins médiatisées :  attirer, par l’originalité de notre action, l’attention des médias, du grand public et d’autres ONG sur des crises oubliées.
–  Le respect des principes de l’aide humanitaire : humanité, impartialité, neutralité, indépendance.
